Reproductive mental healthcare matters — for everyone.

Crystal Schiller, PhD

I am a clinical psychologist specializing in women’s mental health. I study how hormones trigger changes in mood over the course of the reproductive life span—during the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, postpartum, and the transition to menopause. My work has shown that the changes in hormones that normally occur during pregnancy and after childbirth trigger depression in some women but not others.

My work also focuses on increasing access to high-quality information and treatment for depression and anxiety. I believe that mental health care should be a right, not a privilege. I serve as clinical lead on research projects designed to increase access to therapy for perinatal women in North America and in Lusaka, Zambia.

I am also passionate about teaching others about the impact of hormones on mood and tools that have been scientifically shown to help.
